We Have a Wonder Woman!

Wonder Woman has been cast for the (still untitled) Man of Steel sequel. Who will play the iconic role?

Gal Gadot!

I know many of you probably said “who?” when you hear that name. And you’re right, she hasn’t been in very much. Her most recent appearance was Fast and the Furious 6 which I have to admit I haven’t seen. Director Zack Snyder issued the following statement about the casting decision:

“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

Of course this announcement was met with a variety of opinions – both positive and negative. But like Ben Affleck, I’m going to hold off on any actual criticism until I actually see the movie. I kind of like that she’s an unknown – bringing no previous history/preconceived notions of talent (or lack there of) with her.  Ultimately this is a huge opportunity for Gadot and I wish her the best. I want her to succeed in this part because I want them to prove that Wonder Woman is a character that needs to be on the big screen. Why tear her down before she’s even had a chance right?

What we want to know:

What do you think of this casting news? Have you seen Gadot in action before? And what roll do you think Wonder Woman will play in the next film?

News Day Tueday – November 19

The Flash television show will now be getting a standalone pilot rather than a back door one through Arrow

In more TV news there are actual people attached to the Jessica Jones’ show

Probably the most heart breaking news of the week is when I heard it was the end of Young Avengers.…for now?

Wolverine and the X-Men is also disappearing from the roster. First Fearless Defenders, then Young Avengers now Wolverine and the X-Men, what are you doing to me Marvel?

Brian Wood responds to sexual harassment allegations and Tess Fowler responds to that.  All of this suggesting we need to once again have a conversation of women in comics and rape culture.

Geoff Johns tells us to “keep our eye on Lex” as we look towards the future of the DC Universe.

Detective Comics #27 will celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Batman with a whopping 96 pages! And some other good stuff of course.  Like a futuristic African American Robin?

AMC is adapting Preacher into a television show. They need to fill the Walking Dead sized hole in people’s hearts.

News Day Tuesday – November 12 2013

Highlight of the week: there’s a new Ms Marvel!

The Marvel Netflix deal! Or as I like to call it the “They’re making a Jessica Jones show! And some other ones too…”

Lois Lane will be getting her own one shot in the new year. Wish it was at least a mini-series but I’ll take what I can get.

These superhero dresses on Etsy make me want to spend all of my money.

Kevin Smith has seen the new Batsuit and it is  unlike anything we have ever seen before.

And speaking of Batman v Superman. Could a possible former sidekick be on the roster as well?

Some photos have been released from The Amazing Spider Man #2. Including this adorable one:

Could Storm be getting her own series?

Justice League War finally has a release date and in preparation check out the trailer below:

News Day Tuesday – November 5 2013

Jeff Lemire is creating a superheroine inspired by real Canadian teen activist to appear in the upcoming Justice League of Canada.

Speaking of Canadian comic creators, Faith Erin Hicks has a new project on the horizon!

Is anyone else dying to know what Jaimie Alexander knows about Batman v. Superman?

Jonathan Frakes is directing an Agents of SHIELD/Thor crossover episode!

We’re getting another Wolverine movie. And I’m with The Mary Sueput Jubilee in it! Her lack of presence in any of the X-Men movies is the thing I’m most disappointed by.

CW is continuing with the comic book to TV series trend. Next up Hourman.

Mark Waid’s Daredevil ISN’T ending, but it is moving to digital.

Bill Willingham has announced, the comic that got me into comics, Fables is coming to an end.

Nick Cardy, renowned DC artist, has passed away.  RIP. You will be missed.

NEWS: DC Entertainment Moving Their NYC Headquarters to Burbank, CA.

Sometime last night, DC Entertainment President, Diane Nelson, announced that the company would be packing up their editorial operations and will join the rest of the company in Burbank, California.

Dear DCE Team,

As I hope you know, I and the entire DCE exec team work hard to offer transparency about as much of our business plans and results as we possibly and responsibly can. In an effort to continue to do that where possible and to ensure you are hearing news from us, rather than a third party, I am proactively reaching out to you this afternoon to share news about our business.

I can confirm that plans are in the works to centralize DCE’s operations in 2015. Next week, the Exec Team will be in New York for a series of meetings to walk everyone through the plans to relocate the New York operations to Burbank. The move is not imminent and we will have more than a year to work with the entire company on a smooth transition for all of us, personally and professionally.

Everyone on the New York staff will be offered an opportunity to join their Burbank colleagues and those details will be shared with you individually, comprehensively and thoughtfully next week. Meeting notifications will be sent tomorrow to ensure the roll out of this information and how it affects the company and you personally.

We know this will be a big change for people and we will work diligently to make this as smooth and seamless a transition as possible.

This is quite the announcement given that DC’s editorial team will be leaving the rich publishing hub that is New York City and it’s been a place the company has been in since it’s inception.

What do you guys think of this news?
